Africa is on the verge of a structural transformation. With its young population, culture of relationships, mobile penetration, and thirst for entrepreneurship, everything converges to make the continent, within the next twenty years, the absolute champion of direct selling (DS) and network marketing (MLM). In markets that remain largely unsaturated, direct selling meets the needs for access, employment, and inclusive distribution.

Yet Africa remains the great absentee among the international organizations of direct selling. The WFDSA, DSA, DSE, MLMIA, and even the more recent GFDSA have built strong presences in America, Europe, and Asia, but they have not yet anchored equivalent, visible, and lasting structures on the continent.

And let us be clear: Africa cannot become the beating heart of global direct selling if these organizations do not urgently deploy national Direct Selling Associations, Sister Associations, or equivalent structures — with local teams, shared governance, enforceable codes of conduct, consumer protection mechanisms, training and compliance pathways, dispute resolution systems, data transparency, and above all, African representation within their boards and committees. Without such institutional foundations, Africa’s entrepreneurial energy risks dissipating into the informal economy or, worse, being captured by fraudulent models. With them, it will become a massive lever for inclusion, decent incomes, and sustainable growth. The time to invest, to train, and to institutionalize is now: it is as much a matter of global credibility as of enabling millions of individual success stories.
